Vienna, Dec. 29, 1893, rabbi, Father of Emil Jellinek-Mercedes and Max Hermann Jellinek, brother of Hermann Jellinek. From 1845 in Leipzig, from 1856 in Vienna. Considered the most important preacher of his time, author of homiletic and theological works and of works on the philosophy of religion, publisher of rabbinical literature. Works: Beiträge zur Geschichte der Kabbala, 1853; Predigten, 1862-1866; Der jüdische Stamm, 1869; Bet hamidrasch, 6 vols., 1853-1877.
