IsarIsar, River, Tirol, southwest tributary of the Danube (mainly in Bavaria), 295 km long. The Isar rises in the Karwendel Mountains northeast of Innsbruck (576 m) and runs about 30 km on Austrian territory. The mostly uninhabited upper parts along the Isar are called Lafatschertal valley and Hintertal valley, at the Scharnitz pass (964 m) the Isar crosses the border to Bavaria and turns northwards.
