Irschen, Carinthia, municipality in the district of Spittal an der Drau, alt. 804 m, pop. 2,035, area 33.34 km2, summer tourist resort (55,389 overnight stays) on the slope of the Kreuzeckgruppe mountains to the Oberdrautal valley. - Sports centre; construction industry, wood processing industry. - First documented mention 1081-1086 as "castrum Uorsen"; Romanesque-Gothic parish church (13th -15th centuries) with murals (around 1330) and late Gothic winged altar-piece (16th century). Waterfall on Mödritschbach stream.
