Interregnum

Interregnum, Latin: "time between reigns", period without a ruler, in Austria after the Babenbergs died out in 1246 without a legal order of succession, actually lasted only until 1250, when Hermann von Baden succeeded to the throne. The Interregnum was over in 1251, when the Estates of Austria and Styria elected the successor to the throne of Bohemia, Přemysl Otakar, as Duke. Later the Habsburgs considered Otakar's reign legally flawed, so that the time of his rule was included in the Interregnum.
