Institut für Gewerbe- und HandwerksforschungInstitut für Gewerbe- und Handwerksforschung, Institute for Research into Crafts and Trades, (until 1991 Institut für Gewerbeforschung, Institute for Research into Crafts), Vienna, founded in 1952 by W. Heinrich with the help of the Ministry of Trade and the Economic Chamber. Its main tasks are research into the social and economic situation of the crafts and the establishment of fundamental principles for the promotion of trade and industry, advice regarding business administration, and rationalisation measures. Most important research institution for small and medium-sized businesses in Austria, operates various databases on their structures and development and regularly conducts surveys of SMEs. Co-operation in regional, Austrian and international crafts research and development programmes. Heads: W. Heinrich, E. Hruschka, E. Fröhlich, J. H. Pichler. Publications: IfG-Mttlg.
