InfrastrukturInfrastructure, a collective term for facilities, systems, and conditions that are available to the public and to all economic entities. Infrastructure can be subdivided into: material infrastructure (for traffic, energy, news, supply of goods and waste disposal, public administration, education and health systems), institutional infrastructure (norms, organisation, and procedures of an economy), and the infrastructure of personnel (number and qualifications of the labour force). In Austria, the provision of the material infrastructure is the responsibility of the public administration. The necessary outlay of the state, the provinces, and the municipalities for these services is refinanced through taxes and fiscal charges. Literature: H. Leser et al., Diercke-Wörterbuch der Allgemeinen Geographie, 1993.
