Huppert, Hugo


Huppert, Hugo, b. Bielsko Biala (Poland), June 5, 1902, d. Vienna, March 25, 1982, poet, narrative writer, culture critic, translator. After the burning down of the Ministry of Justice arrested as a member of the Communist Party in 1927, 1928 emigration to the Soviet Union. 1930 member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1938 imprisoned, 1939-1941 lecturer at the Maxim Gorki Institute. Returned to Vienna with the Soviet army in 1945. Wrote mainly sketches about his travels and a comprehensive autobiography (1976-1979), his writings are characterised by socialist realism. Translations from Russian (W. Mayakovski) and Old Georgian.
