Hunderassen, österreichischeDog Breeds, Austrian: Austrian short-haired pointers (Bracke) and Austrian shorthaired pinschers. Pointers are a sporting breed and do not hunt in packs, but in pairs. Preferred game are rabbits, occasionally foxes. Austrian pointers: Brandlbracke pointers (also called "Vieräugl"); Tirolean pointers (Austrian flat-coated pointer), its original form dates back to around 1500; Styrian wire-haired Alpine pointer ("Peintinger Bracke"), bred around 1880 from the Hanover bloodhound, the wire-haired Istrianer Bracke pointer and the Brandlbracke; Alpenländische Dachsbracke, short-limbed hunting dog, bred from long-limbed pointers for the slow hunt, can be traced back to similar dogs in the Middle Ages, good bloodhound, mainly bred in Carinthia and in Styria. Austrian short-haired pinscher, kept as a watchdog since the Baroque period. This breed was officially recognised in 1928.
