Huber, Carl Rudolf


Huber, Carl Rudolf, b. Schleinz (municipality of Walpersbach, Lower Austria), Aug. 15, 1839, d. Vienna, Aug. 28, 1896, painter and graphic artist. Studied at the academies of Vienna and Düsseldorf, visited the Near East on several occasions (Egypt in 1875, jointly with L. C. Müller, H. Makart and F. v. Lenbach). From 1880 Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. One of the best known Austrian painters of the Makart era, especially for his portraits and pictures of animals.


Works: Numerous pictures of animals and hunting scenes, portraits of leading personalities of the Makart era.
