HoheneichHoheneich, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Gmünd, alt. 521 m, pop. 1,539, area 15.60 km2, near Gmünd in the northwestern Waldviertel region; numerous ponds in the area. Textile industry, manufacture of windows. First documented mention 1345; late-Baroque/early-Classicist parish and pilgrimage church (1776-1778), high altar (around 1780) with Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary (around 1480-1490); Baroque Our Lady of Lourdes chapel (1740) with dome modelled on that of Jerusalem.
