Hofkirchen, AdelsfamilieHofkirchen, noble family, originally from Lower Bavaria/Upper Austria; 1398-1620 owned Kollmitz and Drösidl near Raabs (Lower Austria). Were made barons in 1464; leading Protestants in the second half of the 16th century; were placed under the ban of the empire in 1620 and lost their estates. Some family members (e.g. Baron Georg Andreas von Hofkirchen) were later in the service of Protestant princes, others converted to Catholicism and stayed in Austria. The family died out in 1692.
