Hoechle, Johann BaptistHoechle, Johann Baptist, b. Klingnau im Aargau (Switzerland), Oct. 19, 1754, d. Vienna, Jan. 1, 1832, painter of portraits and historical and genre paintings; father of Johann Nepomuk Hoechle. Studied at the Academy in Augsburg, from 1780 worked in Munich, where he was court painter to Elector Karl Theodor of Bavaria; 1800 moved to Vienna, in 1802 became court painter and was awarded the title of Kammermaler* as a painter of outstanding merit. Works: pictures of life at court, peasant genre-paintings, historical paintings for Franzensburg in Laxenburg. Literature: ÖBL; NDB.
