Herrand von WildonieHerrand von Wildonie, b. around 1230, d. between 1278-1282, politically committed Middle High German epic poet and poet. 1248-1278 mentioned in documents; came from the influential Styrian family of estate officials Wildon (named after Wildon near Graz on the River Mur); son-in-law of Ulrich von Liechtenstein; first poet of noble descent to write epic tales. Works: 3 songs in the Heidelberg song-manuscript C; 4 narrative verses recorded in the Ambras Heldenbuch (collection of German heroic epics): "Die treue Gattin", "Der betrogene Gatte", "Der nackte Kaiser", "Die Katze". - Edition: H.
