Herold Heroldt, Johannes


Herold (Heroldt), Johannes, b. Jena (Germany), around 1550, d. Weimar (Germany), Sept. 8, 1603, composer, prominent in the field of Protestant music in Inner Austria; from 1593 choirmaster and organist at the Protestant seminary in Klagenfurt and music director in St. Egydi in Klagenfurt; 1601 had to leave the country as a result of the Counter Reformation, settled in Weimar.


Works: 6voice Matthew Passion, 1594 printed in Graz (1955 ed.); song book, 1601.
