Herbeck, Johann von© Copyright Johann von Herbeck, lithograph by A. Lanzedelli Herbeck, Johann von, b. Vienna, Dec. 25, 1831, d. Vienna, Oct. 28, 1877, conductor and composer. From 1863 member of the court orchestra, from 1866 conductor of the court orchestra. Director and conductor with the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, 1869-1875 conductor at the Vienna Court Opera, 1870-1875 its director; from 1858 taught at the Vienna Conservatory. Important personality in Viennese musical circles, discovered F. Schubert´s "Unfinished Symphony" and promoted A. Bruckner. In 1899 the choir of the Friends of Music Society established the H.
