Heinrich I.


Heinrich I, d. June 23, 1018, , son of Margrave Leopold I; Babenberg Margrave. In 994 became ruler of the march, which was mentioned in a document for the first time (996) as "Ostarrîchi". H. resided in Melk, where Saint Koloman was buried. Emperor Heinrich II gave H. estates in the eastern part of the Vienna Woods and in the region between the Kamp and March rivers (around Stockerau). The Bishop of Passau was granted land in 5 places to establish parishes.
