Heiligenblut, Carinthia, municipality in the district of Spittal an der Drau, alt. 1,288 m, pop. 1,259, area 193.50 km2, bi-seasonal tourism (298,125 overnight stays), situated in the high-Alpine region of the upper-most Mölltal, at the foot of the Großglockner mountain, in the "Hohe Tauern" national park. - Southern starting point of the Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße (management headquarters), Möll power station (16 million kW), small power stations Fleiß I and II, Heiligenblut-Roßbach-Schareck cable car (2,606 m), tunnel railway to the Fleißalm mountain area (alt. 1,798 m); the construction is unique in Europe, since the 1.6 km long tunnel is filled with water during summer but serves as a railway tunnel leading to the Fleißalm winter sports region in winter. - Gothic pilgrimage church (1460-91), tower with needle spire, relic of the Holy Blood in the sacrament house (1496), late-Gothic winged altarpiece (1520), crypt with tomb and altar of the Blessed Brictius; open-air museum; in Apriach, Stockmühlen mills with 9 flume mills; west of Heiligenblut Lake Kachelsee, Gößnitz waterfalls, Leiter waterfalls, Margaritzen reservoir (2,000 m) and Lake Sandersee; in the vicinity, Pockhorn late-Gothic subsidiary church, pilgrimage village of Zlapp and farm building with neo-Gothic Mary of Lourdes chapel, Möll waterfalls close by; Kirchheimeck ruins (municipality of Großkirchheim).
