Hauptverband der österreichischen Sozialversicherungsträger (Central Association of Austrian Social Insurance Authorities), legal entity under public law. All the social insurance authorities are statutory members. The Association´s function is to assert the general interests of the social security system and to represent social insurance authorities on issues of common interest; it also conducts research into the field of social security (Social Insurance). It issues guidelines and statutes that are binding on the insurance authorities, e.g. a guideline on the economical prescription of drugs and therapeutic materials, and it enters into collective contracts with the Medical Associations and other bodies representing the interests of free-lance professionals.
