Hatschek, Ludwig© Copyright Ludwig Hatschek. Photo. Hatschek, Ludwig, b. Těšetice, Czech Republic (then Tieschetitz), Oct. 9, 1856, d. Linz (Upper Austria), July 15, 1914, inventor and entrepreneur. After his family left the firm Linz Brewery, he bought a factory for asbestos goods in Vöcklabruck (Upper Austria) in 1893; in 1900 he succeeded in the invention and factory production of asbestos cement (1901 "Eternit"). His descendants expanded the enterprise and in 1980 it was turned into a limited company (Eternit-Werke Ludwig Hatschek AG). Literature: Oö. Landesarchiv (ed.), Oberösterreicher, vol. 2, 1982; NDB.
