Hantsch, HugoHantsch, Hugo, b. Teplice, Czech Republic (then Teplitz-Schönau), Jan. 15, 1895, d. Vienna, Aug. 6, 1972, historian and Benedictine monk; 1935-1938 and 1945/46 university professor in Graz, afterwards in Vienna. In 1938 was arrested by National Socialists and imprisoned in various concentration camps until 1939. Was chairman of the commission for modern Austrian history. From 1953 published the "Wiener historische Studien" and in 1962 "Gestalter der Geschicke Ö.". Further works: Der dt. Bauernkrieg, 1925; J.
