Hakoah


Hakoah (Hebrew = "the force"), Jewish sports club founded in Vienna in 1909 with several sections; 1924/25 Austrian soccer champion, 1926-28 Austrian water polo champions, 1932 two Olympic bronze medals for N. Hirschl in wrestling. In 1938 the sports club was forced to merge with other Jewish sports associations to form "Makkabi-Wien", dissolved in 1941; re-established founded in 1945; successful swimming section.
