Haenel, Günther, b. Dresden (Germany), May 1, 1898, d. Baden (Lower Austria), March 5, 1996, Kammerschauspieler, director, theatre manager; from 1939 at the Theater in der Josefstadt and in 1941 at the Volkstheater in Vienna; 1945-1948 manager of the Vienna Volkstheater (Russian drama, Austrian popular plays, classic plays and modernist French drama); 1948 with K. Paryla and others, founded many theatres including the "Neues Theater in der Scala", of which he was a member until 1952; then producer at the Volkstheater and at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, 1958-1974 worked at the Vienna Burgtheater; films; awarded the Kainz Medal in 1958.
