St. Pölten, Lower Austria, Feb. 8, 1960, political scientist and politician (SPÖ). 1981-90 employed by the SPÖ, 1984-90 Federal Chairman of the Socialist Youth (SJ), 1990-99 employee of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labour; Member of the Bundesrat 1991-93, since 1993 Member of the Nationalrat, since 2000 head of the Social Democrat Parliamentary Group.
