Großmugl


Großmugl, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Korneuburg, alt. 217 m, pop. 1,428, area 64.49 km2. - Agriculture and small commercial enterprises, storage facility. - Named after a still unexplored burial mound of the Hallstatt Culture (800/750-500/400 B.C.), 16 m high and 55 m in diameter ("Großmugl" = Austrian dialect for "large hill"). A second mound, 3 m high and 33 m in diameter contained remains of 30 vessels. Gothic-Baroque parish church.
