GroßarlGroßarl, Salzburg, market town in the district of St. Johann, alt. 924 m, pop. 3,376 (1981: pop. 3,043), 129.22 km2, winter sports resort (366,901 overnight stays) in the Großarl Valley in the Pongau region. - Aerial cableway to the Panoramahütte mountain lodge (alt. 1,781 m), Großarl run-of-river power station (built in 1917, 34,500 MWh), power plants; wood processing (production of windows). - Copper ore and sulphur mining from the Middle Ages to the 19th century; Late Gothic parish church (1768/1769) with high altar supported by columns (1770); "Kösslerhäusl" farmhouse (around 1600), classified as a historical monument; restored historical flour mill; 2 examples of traditional types of farmhouses ("Paarhof", unaltered since 1700) in the Ellmautal valley.
