Graphit

Graphite is extracted in Austria by open-cast mining in Kaisersberg (Styria), and by underground mining in Trandorf (Lower Austria). The former provides high-quality ground material used especially in the metal casting and iron industry; the latter is used in broken form in blast furnaces and the sintering of iron ore. In 1993 total output was 4,146 t of raw graphite.
