Gerlach, Martin, b. Hanau (Germany) March 13, 1846, d. Vienna, April 9, 1918, publisher and photographer. Began as a jeweller in Berlin, came to Vienna in 1874 and worked as a publisher and photographer of illustrations (specialising in architecture, ornaments and plant studies); his son Martin G. jr. (1879-1944) was likewise a renowned photographer.
