Gerl, JosefGerl, Josef, b. Klosterneuburg (Lower Austria), 1734, d. Vienna, Feb. 1, 1798, master builder. Built the Melker Hof in 1769-1774, the Josefstädter Kavalleriekaserne barracks in 1772-1777, the Heumarktkaserne barracks in 1774 and the Invalidenhaus for war veterans in 1783-1787 (all located in Vienna) as well as a number of residential buildings; supervised the reconstruction of the Vienna General Hospital (Wiener Allgemeines Krankenhaus) in 1782-1784.
