Geniecorps

Geniecorps (Corps of Engineers), old branch of the Imperial Army, 1851 originated from the "Ingenieurcorps" (founded 1756 out of the "Mineurcorps" - corps of miners, founded 1716, and the "Sappeurcorps" - corps of sappers, founded 1760), the "Pionierbataillon" (pioneer battalion, established 1758) and the "Bombardiercorps" (1786). Was subordinate to a separate governing board ("General-Genie-Direktion"). In 1893 the two still existing regiments ("Genieregimenter") were turned into independent engineer battalions and provided with new uniforms.
