Gehmacher, FriedrichGehmacher, Friedrich, b. Frankenmarkt (Upper Austria), Sept. 16, 1866, d. Salzburg, Feb. 24, 1942, law graduate. Director of the Unfallversicherung Salzburg medical insurance company; provided the funds for the construction of the Mozarteum in Salzburg (1914) and was one of the main patrons of the Bibliotheca Mozartiana, the Mozart Medal Trust (Stiftung der Mozartmedaille), the purchase of Mozart's birth place, the construction of the Central Institute for Research on Mozart (Zentralinstitut für Mozartforschung) and the foundation of the Salzburg Festival Society (Salzburger Festspielhaus-Gemeinde) in 1917.
