Gaulhofer, Karl


Gaulhofer, Karl, b. Feldbach (Styria), Nov. 13, 1885, d. Amsterdam (Netherlands), Oct. 28, 1941, educational theorist. Physical education expert, from 1919-1932 advisor on physical education in the Austrian Ministry of Education, advocated a holistic approach towards physical education, with M. Streicher co-wrote the work "Natürliches Turnen" which attracted international attention, brought about the reform of physical education teacher training at Austrian universities, as well as the reform of physical education in schools and sports clubs; from 1932 onwards rector of the Academy of Physical Education in Amsterdam.
