Gams, HelmutGams, Helmut, b. Brno, Czech Republic (then Brünn), Sept. 25, 1893, d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Dec. 13, 1976, botanist. Professor at the University of Innsbruck. Numerous works about the systematisation and geography of flowering plants and mosses. From 1920-1923 Gams was one of the co-writers of the 12-volume work "Illustrierte Flora von Mitteleuropa" (Illustrated Flora of Central Europe) by G. Hegi. Founder and head of the biological research station at Wasserburg on Lake Constance. Works: Die Vegetation des Großglocknergebietes, 1936; Kleine Kryptogamenflora von Mitteleuropa, 1940; Flora von Osteuropa, 1950.
