Gallenberg, Wenzel Robert GrafGallenberg, Count Wenzel Robert, b. Vienna, Dec. 28, 1783, d. Rome (Italy), March 13, 1839, composer and theatre director, student of J. G. Albrechtsbergers. Married to Countess G. Guicciardi, to whom L. van Beethoven dedicated his piano sonata in C sharp minor ("Moonlight Sonata"). In 1805 organized the celebrations for Joseph Bonaparte in Naples. Lost his fortune while he was the head of the Vienna Kärntnertor Theatre from 1828-1830. As a composer, especially known for his ballets. Works: About 50 ballets; compositions for orchestras and for the piano. Literature: ÖBL.
