Gaertner, FriedrichGaertner, Friedrich, b. Cieszyn, Poland (then Teschen), May 1, 1882, d. Vienna, Feb. 6, 1931, economist. In charge of nutritional and dietary issues in the Austro-Hungarian Empire during World War One. Later he became a close assistant to I. Seipel and played a major role in introducing the new currency, the Austrian schilling. After 1924 devoted himself to expanding the Danube Steamship Company (DDSG). Works: Der Ausbau der Sozialpolitik in Ö., 1909; Vom Gold und der Geldentwertung, 1922.
