Fussenegger, Gertrud (real name: Gertrud Dietz), b. Plžen, Czech Republic (then Pilsen), May 8, 1912, d. Linz, March 19, 2009, author. Her wide-ranging realistic narrative prose is characterized by anti-modern, mythicizing tendencies, her principal subjects are people's native country and family. She is also known as a writer of poems, dramas, essays, non-fiction and literary critiques. Awarded the Stifter Prize in 1963, the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1981 and the Bavarian Prize for Literature in 1993.
