Fritsch, GerhardFritsch, Gerhard, b. Vienna, March 28, 1924, d. Vienna, March 22, 1969 (committed suicide), narrative writer, poet, librarian, publisher of the literary magazines "Literatur und Kritik" and "protokolle" and of the anthologies "Frage und Formel" (1963) and "Aufforderung zum Mißtrauen" (1967). F. saw social criticism as criticism of language, and the subject-matter of his novels oscillates between despair and consolation. In his novel "Moos auf den Steinen" (1956) he opposes the revival of the myth surrounding the Habsburgs.
