Freinberg


Freinberg Mountain, Upper Austria; mountain on the western outskirts of Linz, eastern foothills of Kürnberger Wald mountain; the Freinberg and the Pöstlingberg mountains flank the gap through which the Danube breaks into the Linz Basin; an exclusive residential district and parks, remains of fortifications (Maximilian towers), a Jesuit monastery (1828) with church (1837) and secondary school, a look-out tower, water tower reservoirs and a radio station are located on Freinberg mountain. Prehistoric and Celtic finds and excavations are also situated in the area.
