Frauendreißiger

Frauendreißiger, popular designation for the 30 days between August 15 (Assumption of the Virgin) and September 8 (Birth of the Virgin) with the subsequent octave (September 15, "Seven Pains of Mary"). According to traditional folk customs, herbs are three times more effective during this time and animals and plants are not poisonous. Plants used for healing and food are bundled into "Lady bunches" and blessed in church on the Birth of the Virgin feast.
