Fichtel, Leopold vonFichtel, Leopold von, b. Sibiu, Romania (then Hermannstadt), 1770, d. Vienna, March 18, 1810, one of the founders of micropaleontology in Austria. During several journeys to Europe and East India F. collected shells, snails and insects for the natural history collection of the court, the "Hofnaturalien-Cabinett".
