Exl, Ferdinand, b. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Aug. 27, 1875, d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Oct. 28, 1942, actor and theater manager. After performing at the Pradl Bauerntheater (farmers' theatre), E. established the "First Tyrolean Farmers' Theatre Society" ("Erste Tiroler Bauernspiel-Gesellschaft", 1902) with its headquarters in Wilten, later in Innsbruck (Exl-Bühne, E. Theatre); E. promoted popular and rustic Austrian theatre and gave highly acclaimed guest performances with his family company in Austria and abroad. 1919-1922, managed the "Innsbrucker Kammerspiele" theatre which he had also founded, 1915-1920 the Innsbruck City Theatre, and around 1930 the Raimundtheater in Vienna. After his death, his wife Anna and daughter Ilse ran the E. Theatre until it was closed in 1955.
