Epstein, Julius, b. Zagreb, Croatia (then Agram), Aug. 7, 1832, d. Vienna, March 2, 1926, pianist, 1867-1901 music teacher (taught G. Mahler and others) at the Vienna Conservatory; was especially concerned with plain, unaffected performance and re-published numerous classical and pre-classical works; friend of J. Brahms.
