EinlegesystemEinlegesystem (boarding), a type of social welfare institution in Austrian villages first introduced in 1863. In municipalities and villages without a home for the aged, poor members of the municipality were alternately boarded and lodged in various households. Usually these people were retired servants, almost 95 % of them were unmarried. The system was abolished in Lower Austria in 1893. Literature: K. Konrad (ed.), Der alte Mensch in der Geschichte, 1982.
