Ebner, Ferdinand, b. Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria), Jan. 31, 1882, d. Gablitz (Lower Austria) Oct. 17, 1931, philosopher and educator; uncle of Jeannie Ebner. 1902-1923 primary school teacher in Lower Austria; one of the forerunners of existentialism, also involved in the "Brenner-Kreis" (Brenner Circle); his philosophy of life, which was influenced by H. Bergson and by H. Swoboda from Vienna, considered fulfilment and momentary productive genius as the highest ethical value in life. Along with M. Buber, founded the philosophy of dialogical personalism.
