Donnerskirchen


Donnerskirchen, Burgenland, market town in the district of Eisenstadt-Umgebung, alt. 193 m, pop. 1,556, area 33.87 km2, some summer tourism (16,568 overnight stays), located between the Leithagebirge mountains and Lake Neusiedl. - Golf course; fruit and wine growing. - First documented mention 1285, Baroque parish church (1676-1680) overlooking the town, several chapels and pillory (1666). Former palace, then tithe farm (built 1611), now restaurants. Close to Donnerskirchen archaeological finds of 5 burial mounds from the Hallstatt culture. The marble table top found in a Roman villa dates from late Antiquity.
