Daun, Count Wirich Philipp, Prince of Thiano (from 1710), b. Vienna, Oct. 19, 1669, d. Vienna, July 30, 1741, field marshal; father of Count Leopold Josef Daun. Earned distinction mainly in the war of Spanish succession; in 1706 defended Turin, in 1713 became Viceroy of Naples; from 1725 Governor of the Netherlands; 1728-1733 Governor of Milan; his remains are entombed in the wall of St. George's Chapel in the Augustinerkirche church in Vienna.
