Daublebsky von Sterneck, Robert Freiherr vonDaublebsky von Sterneck, Baron Robert, b. Prague (Czech Republic), Feb. 7, 1839, d. Vienna, Nov. 2, 1910. Major General, physicist, astronomer; entered the Austro-Hungarian Army after 2 years of study at the University of Technology of Prague; fought in the wars of 1859 and 1866; worked at the Institute of Military Geography in Vienna 1862-1902, became head of group for astronomy and geodesy and of the observatory. He carried out cartography projects in Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia, was a pioneer of relative gravity measurement, and invented apparatus for tide measurement.
