Dachsteinkalk

Dachstein Limestone, widely spread rock formation of the Northern limestone range, light gray and whitish, mostly well-stratified rock with fossils ("Kuhtritte", shell fragments), originated in the late Triassic period around 220 million years ago; karstic high plains and caves. Along with the Dachstein mountain itself, many other mountains largely consist of Dachstein limestone, such as the Tennengebirge mountains, Hagengebirge mountains, Totes Gebirge mountains, Hochschwab mountain and Schneeberg mountain. The more massive Dachstein reef limestone forms the basic composition of the prominent Gosaukamm crest and others.
