Charlotte, Empress of Mexico, b. Laeken Castle (near Brussels, Belgium), June 7, 1840, d. Bouchoute Castle (near Brussels, Belgium), Jan. 19, 1927, daughter of the Belgian king Leopold I; married Archduke Maximilian, the younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph and future Emperor of Mexico in 1857. After his execution in 1867 she became mentally deranged and spent the rest of her life in Belgium.
