Bonitz, Hermann, b. Langensalza (Germany), July 29, 1814, d. Berlin (Germany), July 25, 1888, classical philologist. 1849-1867 university professor in Vienna, established the Philological Seminar, worked out a plan for the organisation of secondary school education (Organisationsentwurf 1849) in Austria in 1849 together with F.S. Exner, who created the basic concept and helped him reorganise the Prussian system of secondary education (1882) after B.´s return to Berlin.
