Bonifatius, St., feast day June 5, b. Kingdom of Wessex (United Kingdom), 672/675, d. Dokkum (Netherlands), June 5, 754 (martyred), buried in Fulda; "Apostle of Germany", Anglo-Saxon Benedictine monk, during the reorganization of the Bavarian church in 739 he created the bishoprics of Salzburg and Passau, the most important starting points for Austrian's conversion to Christianity.
